On November 29, Luke’s Mission board members April Perry and Shelia Rittgers had the great privilege of attending the graduation ceremony of Romel Dorsaint. Romel is the first student that Luke’s Mission has supported completely thorughout his entire 7 years medical school education. What an accomplishment for him! He still has a year of residency until he gets his license but this is the first step to a dream come true.

The slide show above shows Romel Dorsaint, one of the medical students we support. Funding for thestudents goes to pay for tuition, room and board and other living/school expenses. We need to raise $5500 each year to support their education.
Romel is 29 years old and is in his last year of medical education in Haiti. We have known Romel since he was a translator for our medical teams now nearly 10 years ago. His dream was to be a doctor and care for the people in his country.
He finished his academic work in November 2009 and began his one year internship required by the Haitian government at the prestigious Hopital Albert Schweitzer in DeChappelles. Following this, he will receive his mecdical license. Romel is married to Fregga, who is 25 and is graduated from nursing school in December 2009. They want to provide medical care to the poor and those who do not have access to it when they graduate. Luke’s Mission has supported Romel since the beginning of his medical education. Romel attended Luminere University, a private christian cuniversity in Port au Prince. His educational expenses during his residency are $5500 per year.
